Good morning {{ First Name | Stewards }},
Living in a rapidly growing city means constantly navigating the friction between the "old" and the "new." Sometimes that looks like a 1930s prohibition law colliding with a brand-new downtown brewery.
Other times, it's just trying to figure out what to wear when the weather swings 35 degrees in a single day.
Today, we are unpacking all of it. We are also pulling the curtain back on the latest food safety scores for our local Smyrna and Vinings staples. Let's just say there are a few surprises you'll want to review before booking your next date night.

☀️ THE WEATHER REPORT: THE FRIDAY FAKE-OUT
Georgia weather is back to its old tricks this week. We are coasting through a mild, cloudy start to the week before rocketing up to a blistering 85 degrees on Friday.
Tue 24: ⛅ High 66°/Low 47°. Cloudy morning giving way to some afternoon sun. A solid, standard spring day.
Wed 25: ⛅ High 66°/Low 50°. A carbon copy of Tuesday. Comfortable, but the humidity starts creeping up.
Thu 26: ⛅ High 80°/Low 58°. The heat turns on. Welcome to the first 80-degree day of the week.
Fri 27: ⛅ High 85°/Low 50°. Peak "Fake Summer." It will be 85 degrees with a stiff western breeze. Hit a patio, but keep a jacket handy for that massive 35-degree overnight temperature plunge.
Sat 28: ⛅ High 67°/Low 45°. Weather whiplash strikes. A crisp, cool Saturday perfect for hitting the Silver Comet Trail, but a sharp drop from yesterday's heat.
Sun 29: ⛅ High 66°/Low 50°. Plentiful sun and mid-60s. A quiet, comfortable end to the weekend.
Mon 30: ⛅ High 75°/Low 54°. Warming right back up to start the work week.
Don't get too comfortable with the summer preview, though—Saturday yanks us right back down to reality with a 20-degree temperature drop. Plan your patio beers for Friday afternoon, but keep the light jacket handy for the weekend.
🧼 THE CLEAN & THE QUESTIONABLE: MARCH INSPECTION WRAP-UP
In our last issue, we promised a look at the latest Cobb County health scores. Some of these are stellar, while a few local staples are skating by on "C" grades.
Before you book that Friday night table, here is the raw data from the health inspectors.
🌟 The "A" List (90-100)
These spots are locked in. No notes.
The Perfect 100s: Graze Craze (Atlanta Rd), Dairy Queen (Spring Rd), and Paleteria La Villa.
The School Honor Roll: Griffin Middle, King Springs Elementary, and Nickajack Elementary all clocked 100s.
L&L Hawaiian BBQ: 92. Solid, consistent, and clean.
Ruby's Sourdough Pizza: 91. Both the base operation and the main restaurant kept it clean.
Taco T: 91. A solid showing for this local spot.
Monterrey Mexican Restaurant: 90.
Steak ‘n Shake: 90. Say what you want about the drive-thru wait, the kitchen is keeping it tight.
⚠️ The "Room for Improvement" (Below 85)
Not deal-breakers for everyone, but definitely worth a glance at the report.
Hibachi Express: 85.
Blue Moon Pizza: 81. A surprising dip for a West Village favorite.
Cafe Lucia: 81. Great coffee, but the inspectors found some workflow issues this round.
DaVinci’s Pizzeria: 79. The lowest score of the month. If you’re a regular, you might want to check the follow-up report in a few weeks.
🏊 The Pool Check
With the weather warming up, the pool inspections are officially in high gear. Elevate West Village, Calibre Brooke Apartments, Sync at Jonquil, Harlow, and 400 Belmont all cleared with 100s. Sharkie's Academy scored a solid 96.
On the flip side, MAA Spring came in at 84 and Comfort Inn & Suites is sitting at an 83.
The Move: If you’re dining at a spot with a lower score, look for the posted permit. Most of these "Bs" and "Cs" are corrected on-site, but a 79 at DaVinci's is a signal to keep your eyes open. (You can always call 770-435-7815 for the specific violation list if you're curious).
🗣️ COMMUNITY VOICES: THE BREWERY, THE BALLOT, AND THE PROHIBITION LAW
If you were planning to cast your ballot at the Smyrna Community Center for the May 19 primaries, you are going to need a backup plan. The beloved, high-turnout polling location is officially out.
The culprit? The newly opened StillFire Brewing.
According to a recently surfaced post-Prohibition era law (Georgia Election Code O.C.G.A. § 3-3-20), alcohol cannot be served within 250 feet of a polling place. The Community Center sits squarely in that radius, catching the Cobb County elections board completely by surprise during their March 16 meeting.
The Reddit Reaction: Unsurprisingly, the r/Smyrna subreddit completely blew up over the news this week. The thread is a chaotic mix of legitimate frustration and political debate:
The Outrage: A vocal group of residents labeled the closure as "strategic voter suppression," noting that losing a massive early voting hub will disenfranchise voters who show up on Election Day unaware of the change.
The Eye Rollers: Others pointed out the sheer absurdity of enforcing an archaic 1930s saloon law in 2026. One resident joked, "Breweries are for people afraid of bar fights. Less breweries. More voting is what this country needs."
The Pragmatists: A few level-headed locals reminded everyone that while it's a massive inconvenience, checking your updated location is just a click away.
The Vibe Check: This is a classic case of Smyrna's rapid downtown development colliding with outdated state laws. The fact that the county elections board didn't realize this conflict until mid-March is a tough look. While we all love having a new brewery in town, losing a prime civic asset in an election year is a bitter pill to swallow.
The Move: Do not get caught off guard on May 19. Go to your Georgia My Voter Page right now to verify your new designated polling location and figure out your early voting logistics.
🗓️ SAVE THE DATE
Smyrna Food Truck Tuesdays Kickoff (May 5, 5 PM): Taylor-Brawner Park. The unofficial start of spring in Smyrna is back. Expect long lines, great food, and half the city to be there.
